FAQ

Answers to Important Questions Regarding the Mcalister's Deli Franchise Opportunity

Q. Is previous food experience necessary in order to be awarded a McAlister's Deli franchise?
A. Yes. While the experience does not have to derive itself solely from you, we do require that you have a member on your team with multi-unit experience who would also have an equity stake in the business.
Q. What other expenses are involved in starting the business?
A. In addition to the franchise fee, the total investment includes the cost of the furniture, fixtures and equipment, leasehold improvements, an initial inventory, working capital and other expenses.
Q. Define the Franchise Fee and what it covers?
A. The franchise fee is a cost that covers various expenses involved in granting the franchise to you. In general, the fee pays for expenses including legal, marketing, salaries and benefits, general overhead, marketing materials, opening assistance travel and training.
Q. Define the Royalty and its amount?
A. The 5% Royalty is based upon Gross Sales. The Royalty grants you the continued use of the McAlister's Deli name, trademarks, and access to all of our operating system, marketing assistance, and ongoing business development consulting.
Q. How much training is provided in the McAlister's Deli system of operations?
A. Four people must successfully complete our training course which last approximately 6-8 weeks. This course provides instruction in all Front of House and Back of the House duties, customer service techniques, time management, ServSafe & CPR certification, and administrative procedures involved in operating a McAlister's Deli restaurant (i.e. food cost analysis, interviewing techniques and Profit & Loss statement summaries).
Q. What form of continuing guidance will I receive?
A. As a McAlister's Deli franchise owner, you will receive periodic visits from your franchise representative, who will provide guidance and quality control, and answer any questions you may have. As always, we are only a phone call away for answers to any questions that arise during the day-to-day operation of the restaurant from MIS/POS, Accounting, Training, Human Resources, Construction, Real Estate & Development, Purchasing and Marketing.
Q. What is the term of the McAlister's Deli franchise agreement?
A. The term of the McAlister's Deli franchise agreement is ten years. The franchise is renewable for up to three additional successive five-year terms, provided renewal criteria are satisfied.
Q. Will I have an exclusive territory?
A. Yes, each McAlister's Deli restaurant will be located in its own "designated area," inside which no other McAlister's Deli restaurants will be developed. Your territory may be defined by an enclosed mall, or by zip code boundaries, highways, physical landforms, and other criteria. The typical designated area will include a base of approximately 30,000 people.
Q. What is my next step?
A. We ask that you fill out an initial application and return it to us as soon as possible. After reviewing your information, we will contact you to discuss whether you qualify and, if so, further discuss the next phase of the process. Applications can either be sent to you, or found on our website here, whereby you may either submit over the internet or simply print it out and return via U.S. Post Office.
